The “Big” Recruit

Big Brothers Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fairfield County is currently recruiting Big Brothers and Big Sisters for our School Mentoring Program.  School Based Mentoring is a fun and easy way to give back to the community and help a child at the same time.  For one hour a week, you will spend time with a child during the school day developing a friendship and improving academic and/or social skills, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Big Brothers Big Sisters staff.  We offer a variety of mentoring times, days, and locations for your convenience.  Get your friends together to step up and step out and become a mentor.

How it works

School Based Mentoring allows for volunteers to spend time one-on-one with a child during the school day.  Volunteers are required to spend about an hour, one day per week with their child during the school year working on academic and/or social skills.  Depending on the time of day that you meet, you may work on math facts or reading skills, play basketball or walk on the fitness track, or you may simply eat lunch and share conversation with your child.  What’s important is that you are creating a trusted relationship with a child who can use a friend.

Children need consistency in their relationship with you.  We do understand things come up.  If you are unable to keep your scheduled meeting date and time simply call the school to report your absence to the school secretary.

Big Brothers Big Sisters staff will be with you every step of the way!  Our program coordinator is available to answer questions and to discuss activities that are available for you and your student to do together.
